Cyberpsychosis is a mental illness caused by the excessive addition of cybernetics to the human body. The cyberpsycho loses his or her identity as a person. They see other living beings as weaker and inferior. With their physical enhancements and indifference to life, cyberpsychos are very dangerous to anyone who crosses their path.

Cyberpsychosis can affect anyone, and the less empathetic a person is, the more likely they are to develop the disease.

There is no real cure, but treatments are available. Effects are cumulative. A single cybernetic hand won't drive you mad, but replacing all four limbs and both eyes might...

Symptoms are progressive; at first, cyberpsychos may simply become distant from friends and family. They begin to relate more to machines than to people; eating, sleeping, socializing all become less important. Human interactions begin to irritate them, culminating in a terrifying rage that consumes the entire victim, eventually turning violent. Not all cyberpsychos are enraged. Many exhibit more subtle symptoms: chronic lying, kleptomania, sadism, brutality, split personalities and extremely violent mood swings. But violence against living beings, especially people, is relatively common.

Cyberpsychosis has become a major problem in a totally technological world such as Cyberpunk. This disease is also very common among gang members, but much rarer in society. The police department has a heavily armed and armored division, the Psycho Squad, which specializes in the control or elimination of cyberpsychos. The Psycho Squad is the Cyberpunk world's equivalent of SWAT.
